Notes or note sheets indicate the pitch and length or duration of every note in a song.
Tabs (Guitar) determine the position of every note in the guitar fret board but it does not determine the duration of the note.

If a music book is with piano/vocal/guitar, it means it has note sheets for piano, vocals (lyrics), and guitar (sometimes without tabs). Mostly, used by Pros.

For beginners, it is easy to read tabs because it tells you where you position your fingers on to the fret board. You just have to know the length or duration of every note by ear. Most music sheet include lyrics, so you will not get lost on where you are on a song.

My advice is buy the music book with notes and tabs, and HAVE FUN!!!
