Been getting a lot of requests for this one, so here it is folks. “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The single greatest song ever written (in my book). I learned this when I was like 16 so I’m not using tabs and did it all by ear, so this isn’t perfect. Lynyrd Skynyrd is an awesome awesome band and has gone through far more hardships than they deserve. Even if you’re a Skynyrd purist and think the current lineup is just a tribute band, go seem them and support the band, because they put on a great show.

First of all, the intro to this is wrong but we recorded this like half a year ago so I can’t find the right intro, since I am so scatterbrained, lol. I definitely don’t do this song justice, M. Shadows has a sexy voice I cannot duplicate.. he’s sexy.. *faints*. OK, I’m a bit of an a7x fangirl. Can you blame me?

The main reason why this song is difficult for me to sing is because it’s too high for me to sing in chest voice, but it sounds absolutely awful and awkward in head voice, (similar to falsetto for you males). Little did you know that reading my descriptions could give you a lesson in voice, eh? ;]

Anyway – Hopefully I’ll be able to put annotations up before this thing gets uploaded, but I’m on my way to buy books for class.. oh how I love spending near $1000 every semester for books.. nottttt..

Sorry there have been no videos lately, I haven’t been too interested in Rock Band and college just started again, so I’ve been very busy. Don’t worry though, I’ll never quit – I love music and I love the way Rock Band allows people to express themselves. Plus I’m not a attention whore that wants people to cry for me to keep playing. Ha. I’m sure you know what I mean if you follow the Rock Band community ;]

Hehehehehehe.

So yeah, decided to do this today ’cause I was bumming around doing silly stuff while I was cleaning, and realised that BRE’s give the same score regardless of difficulty. I sorta already knew, but ever paid much attention to it. It didn’t take me long after that to think of trying this.

I tried on drums first just ’cause that was what I playing playing at the time, and it’s the easiest to do good BREs on. However the note-count is 4-5 times that of the guitar/bass charts, so the BRE only gave me about 3.2 stars. (IIRC)

Next I tried bass, but failed to take into account the higher 5-star requirement because of the higher multiplier, and the fact that the bass keeps going over the verses where the guitar has nothing. Bass got me about 4.1 stars.

Finally tried guitar. And I was expecting it to be similar to bass, ’cause there’s quite a few chords and the solos are pretty busy as well for an easy chart. My first try I did a pretty slack BRE, and only got about 50,300, which was a 4.9 star. It was proof of concept though, so I recorded the next run, and this is what happened.

EDIT: Yes, No Fail is on, didn’t think I’d need to clarify that.
I tried to pass with less than one star 1 star a couple of times, but copped out both times. It could be possible, but you’d have to path it and plan it and various other things that I’m too lazy to do.

This video was created to help Rock Band players be better and more informed consumers by showing them the charts for downloadable content in the game. Allowing them to find amazing songs or avoid terrible charts they might have purchased otherwise. Harmonix does not provide any video previews and until they do, videos like this are the only way for users to see what they’re buying beforehand.

This song is out for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 versions of Rock Band and Rock Band 2. It might be out for the Wii version.

The appeal of current Green Day set aside, this is a very easy and bland song to play on plastic guitar. I should also let you know that the sound that came forth from me when I missed that note is something nobody should ever have to hear.
